The Boy Scouts Are Coming to the New River Gorge

Bechtel Summit The big news in Southern WV? The Boy Scouts are heading to the New River Gorge. Recently, the Boy Scouts of America broke ground on phase two of their new National Scout Reserve right here in our backyard.

The Bechtel Summit will be the permanent home of the National Scouting Jamboree and a new adventure base, to compliment bases in Minnesota, New Mexico, and Florida.

The center is slated to open in 2013 and will be open to scouts year-round for camping adventures. The location will also host the National Scout Jamboree in July 2013, a yearly scouts gathering which attracts tens of thousands. Let’s hope they love it, so they’ll be back to join us in October.

On our honor, we promise the scouts and the New River Gorge will be a great combination.

Did you visit the Bechtel Summit booth on Bridge Day? We were honored to have them as a Bridge Day sponsor.
