Bridge Day Commission
The Bridge Day Commission was created in 1990 by the WV State Legislature as a body that convenes as necessary to guide the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce in its planning and administration of Fayette County’s annual Bridge Day event held on and around the New River Gorge Bridge and within the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve.
The BDC consists of 6 voting positions and 6 advisory positions. The voting positions are appointed from the organization and these have been mandated by the WV State Legislature. The advisory positions are appointed by the BDC and were created due to the importance of having input from their community to provide guidance, knowledge, assistance and information necessary to facilitate a safe and successful event.
Voting members include:
Fayette County Chamber of Commerce
Secretary of the Department of Transportation (WVDOH)
Fayette County Commission
Secretary of the Department of Public Safety (WVSP)
Town of Fayetteville
Sheriff of Fayette County
These positions are appointed by the organization
Advisory positions include:
National Park Service Advisor
Regional Tourism Advisor
Vendor & Fayette County Community Coordinator
Building, Antenna, Span and Earth (BASE) Coordinator
Rappel Coordinator
Emergency Services Coordinator
There is an application process for the advisory positions. These positions require the applicant to have experience with Bridge Day and knowledge of how the event day progresses. Also, they should be able to contribute to the safety, security and success of the event and attend meetings.
