Catch the Carnage & Laughs at the Whitewater Video Boater's Challenge
You can catch all the New River Gorge whitewater action, even if you're too scared to take on the rapids yourself!
The 11th Annual Whitewater Video Boater's Challenge on Oct. 1 will show off all the craziest footage of the season, which you can enjoy from a cozy seat in the Historic Fayette Theater.
Video boaters who work filming for the local outfitters will be editing together their best shots from the New and Gauley Rivers and facing off head-to-head.
Count on some humor, some crazy whitewater carnage and amazing river moments.
There'll be plenty of great footage to pull from. The New River is known for huge waves in the summer, and the Gauley is epic, known as one of the world's Top 10 whitewater rivers with its famous "Big 5" class V rapids, the toughest runnable waves.
Prizes are awarded for the top 3 in each category: America's Best Whitewater (hero footage), Best Intro/Outro, Best Skit, Best Rescue, Wildlife, Best Raft Beat-Down, Best Kayak Beat-Down, Best POV, Best Marketing, and Open.
And you can join the screening of all the entries alongside the panel judges. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for seniors older than 55 and children younger than 12.
To get a taste of what to expect, you can also get the 2013 DVD. Proceeds go to the family of a long-time video boater who passed away. To get a copy, send $20 or a check for "VBC-Knox Fund" to:
Scotch 30 Productions Attn: Kip Conklin PO Box 682058 Park City, UT 84068
And if you decide from watching that you want to give those waves a try for yourself, the New and Gauley are both still running through October.
Take a ride on the New below the bridge on Bridge Day to see the action from below, or take on the world-class Gauley the next day to pack in a full weekend of outdoor adventure.
