Holiday and Christmas Events in the New River Gorge
The season of lights and tinsel is upon us, and the Gorge is bustling with the festivities of the holidays. People love to celebrate this time of year, and often express their holiday spirit with grand displays of lights and decoration. It's nice to see and appreciate those that put so much time and effort into making the season merry. Here’s where you should go to enjoy the fun!
Hawks Nest State Park
Lights Along the Midland Trail is a holiday display at Hawks Nest State Park. This display runs from November 26 through January 1 from dark until 10 pm. Hawks Nest is located right on the rim of the New River Gorge, and this spectacular backdrop makes this light exhibit extra special.
45th Annual Lacey's Lights and Maples Display
Located at the Fayette County Park in Beckwith, this is by far one of the largest and longest running celebrations of the holiday season. Over 300,000 lights are the combined displays of two local families. Lacey Smith started his display in Pax, WV in 1967, and Elwood and Betty Maples began sharing their lights in the 50's. Take a drive through the park or check it out on foot. This presentation will take place from December 1 through 30 from 6-10 pm nightly.
Page/Vawter House Christmas Lights and Tours in Ansted
See the beautiful decorations of this historic home in downtown Ansted on December 7, 8, 22, and 23. Tours begin at 5pm and 6pm, and the cost is $10 (anyone under the age of 10 is free). There is a special tour to benefit the Humane Society on December 9 at 4pm. The house’s amazing architecture features 11 fireplaces and 52 eight-foot tall windows.
Historic Fayette Theater
You have two ways to celebrate the season at the Historic Fayette Theater. One is Tiny Tim: A Christmas Tale Revisited, a play that can be seen on either December 1 at 8pm or December 2 at 2pm. Also, plan to see The New River Youth Symphony Chorus Concert on December 8 at 7 pm. This performance features local youth, showcasing their musical talent in the spirit of the holiday season.
With so much to do it won't be hard to get in the Christmas spirit. Hope we see you out and about!
