Groom Getaways: Pre-Wedding Bachelor Trips to WV
As the wedding bells start to ring louder, it’s the perfect time for you to start planning a trip with the guys! The southern mountains of West Virginia offer adventure, and also some peace and quiet for you and your friends to get away for a truly memorable bachelor party.
If you need a reason to come visit, we’ve got 5:
1.Skiing/Snowboarding
One of the best places to experience some white powder on the hills is theWinterplace Ski Resort in Ghent, WV. You and your friends can take to new heights by skiing down a mountain that towers above at 3,600 feet. The park offers 27 trails and 2 terrain parks. As long as weather permits, they are able to stay open with the park’s snowmakers, which are able to keep snow on the ground. The fun also doesn’t stop at skiing and snowboarding! Winterplace offers the largest snowtubing park in West Virginia.
2. Fishing
Some of the best fishing can be met in this part of the state due to the naturally clear water of the rivers and lakes. You will be able to sit back, unwind and wait for your line to stir. If you plan to go during the winter season, then you may be up for a challenge! As the chill sets in the water, so does the metabolism of fish. The West Virginia DNR said you will have to “act slowly and methodically” in order to get a fish to bite! The best places for you to go during this time of the year are the New River, Greenbrier River, Kanawha Falls, Plum Orchard Lake and Stephens Lake.
You can learn more about the secret spots for the best fish from our local fishing outfitters, like Pro River Outfitters, Mountain Lake Bowfishin', Mountain State Anglers and New River Dories.
3. Beer
For guys who are passionate about their beer, there is a craft brewery in the town of Fayetteville that will provide you with a variety of quality brews. Bridge Brew Works has only 2 owners, and they have an eye for detail. They make sure your drink is special by watching over how your beer is made and, ultimately, capped. The selection is special as well: you can choose belgian-style beers and a number of year-round beers, such as Kolsch-style beer or an Old Burley Barleywine. However, if you’re looking for more breweries in the area, you should go take a seat at Lewisburg’s Greenbrier Valley Brewing, only about an hour from the gorge, where you can grab a pint of their Wild Trail Pale Ale or other flagship ales and lagers.
4. Camping/Hiking
Hiking near the scenic New River Gorge Bridge can be a very relaxing activity. You can discover forest trails, overlooks and historic scenery in the National Park. Trails vary in length, and some reach only a fourth of a mile, while others stretch up to 7 miles! The New River Gorge National River also offers campgrounds if you want to stick around for another day. You will truly get to experience nature as you sit around a campfire during a starry night.
5. Whitewater Rafting
A known fact about West Virginia is that the southern part of our state offers some of the best whitewater rafting in the world! This Gauley and New Rivers’ waters cut through mountains and generate some of the most powerful rapids to be felt on the East Coast.
