Exploring Bridge Country: What To See & Do in Oak Hill

Oak Hill is a small town with a lot of character and charm, only a short drive from the New River Gorge Bridge. Oak Hill, WV, dining

While you're in for Bridge Day, you can explore this friendly community through its small shops and eateries. Relax and take a stroll down Main Street or maybe the historic White Oak Trail.

Whether you’re traveling or stopping by, Oak Hill is sure to leave you with a good impression. Some of the best places to check out are:

A Town History Favorite: The White Oak Trail

Once a part of the Virginian railway, this historic line is now a paved and graveled path, used by locals for walking and biking. You can travel up to 8 miles, and visit 3 communities. Oak Hill sits in the center, while Summerlee and Carlisle rest on opposite ends. A highlight of this trail is the White Oak Railroad Depot, the only remaining Virginian Railway depot in West Virginia.

The White Oak Trail Expo features entertainment and more than 180 craft and food vendors along the rail trail. This year, it will be June 6, 2015.

For a Bite: Delfino’s Pizza and Ice Cream or Cafe One Ten

On East Main Street, Delfino’s Pizza and Ice Cream is a laid-back restaurant with the vibe of family sports bar meets old-school diner. There are jerseys, TVs, and, of course, food. While their pizza specialties are a must, a real treat to try after your meal is their ice cream. You can choose from cones, milkshakes, sundaes and an array of cheesecakes to pair them with.

Charming Cafe One Ten whips up creative specials every day, from crafty sandwiches and homestyle cooking to upscale dishes with a little local flair. Their old-fashioned hot dogs are a fan favorite. They have a Sunday buffet if you want a little of everything, and their salad bar is sprawling with fresh options. Top off your meal with some sweet deep-fried oreos!

Best Place to Grab a Drink: Rafter’s Lounge

A good place to find some people, music and drinks is at Rafter’s Lounge. Sitting on Oyler Avenue in Oak Hill, this bar offers a cozy place to gather and rack up a game of pool, with a variety of specials and food. One of their most beloved items is their wings!
