Climb like a pro!

Learn from the best, on the best, in the New River Gorge. If you’re a rock climber, “The New” will keep you reaching for more. Iron-hard sandstone, more than 1,000 established climbs, and featured rock are some of America’s best— which is why you won’t want to miss these seasonal events.

Sink your bolts into these climbing workshops:

1. Chicks Climbing

Chicks with Picks, a ladies-only organization, heads to the Gorge each summer for a weekend of sandstone climbs.

Join small trad or sport clinics with certified guides and professional climbers. Each workshop is inclusive, friendly and supportive. You’ll be surprised at how quickly your technique improves!

Along the way, you’ll get breakfast and dinner, gear, camping equipment, and gift bags! Stay tuned for 2017 dates.

2. Rock Climbing Summer Camp

Teens can also have a crack at the New River Gorge. After all, why not start on the highest quality rock possible?

Held in July, New River Mountain Guides’ unique summer camp takes you to a new location every day, including a trip to Summersville Lake— the “Little Bahamas of the East.” In the process, you’ll learn values like trust, teamwork, and problem solving.

Best of all, professional climbers and coaches will teach you how to climb safely. Rely on your gear, access risks, and make proper judgement calls.

And at night, you’ll camp out in the Gorge. Now that’s one heck of a summer camp!

3. The Warrior’s Way

New River Mountain Guides, an experienced climbing organization, will improve your technique with special workshops held April-September.

The Trad/Mental Camp is ideal if you’ve experienced a slump or setback. That’s because River Mountain’s emphasis on efficient climbing and resting are real breakthroughs. Master both and gain trust in yourself and your equipment.

During the course, you’ll also get coached in safety, risk assessment, and proper gear use.

You can also sign up for the Fall/Commit Camp, which puts mental awareness into action. Learn how to safely fall, rest properly, and judge risks.

4. Craggin’ Classic

Casual and inclusive, this climbing workshop is one of the Gorge’s most popular events. Over the course of 3 days at the end of September, take clinics with professional climbers, watch gear demos, and win awesome gear with raffles and silent auctions.

Craggin’ Classic also has a film tour, free beer, conservation projects, and— get ready— a dessert potluck! Start off your climb with coffee and breakfast in the Gorge, then celebrate with late-night dancing, a NRG Climber Throwdown Party, and competitions.
