When & Where to Catch All the Bridge Day Action
Always go bigger! We do! Bridge Day is adding
even more extreme sports to the lineup for 2013.
Be sure you don\'t miss a moment of the action! Here\'s the list of
adventurers not to miss at Bridge Day:
The stars of the show, with their colorful parachutes, leaping from the top of the New River Gorge Bridge into the New River Gorge.
BASE jumping is illegal in much of the world, so Bridge Day is a
rare chance for these thrill seekers to get their fix.
When & Where: The BASE jumpers will be leaping throughout the entire festival, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can look over the side of the bridge at the festival to watch the drops, or go to one of the off-site viewing areas.
Rappelling
Rappellers will be dropping from the bridge to the Gorge as well, but by
descending ropes from the catwalk under the bridge.
When & Where: Rappellers will also be climbing all day, beginning at 9 a.m. For the best view, take a trip to the bottom of the Gorge.
Xpogo Stunting
Turning a children\'s toy into a high-flying extreme sport accessory, the daredevils of
Xpogo\'s stunt team will be getting nearly
10 feet of air as they flip and jump into gravity-defying tricks.
When & Where: The 20-minute stunt shows will begin at 10 a.m.,11:30 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. on the south side of the Bridge near booth 125.
Skydiving
In a show of both daring and patriotism, Larry LeMaster from
Skydive NRG will
leap out of a plane above the festival and parachute down with a large American flag trailing behind in honor of our troops.
When & Where: Larry will jump from the plane above the bridge at about noon, weather permitting.
BMX Biking
Creativity is the name of the game for flatland
BMX rider Terry Adams. He not only rides, but uses his
bike as a stunt tool, popping the wells up for twirls, leaps and tricks.
When & Where: Terry will show off his signature moves during his 10-minute shows at 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. on the south side of the Bridge near booth 125.
Highlining
Festival-goers like you will be getting in on the action, strapping in and
zipping full-speed from the bridge into the Gorge on the highline.
When & Where: Highliners will be flying down the zip during the festival. You can watch, or you can
be one of them yourself.
Catapulted BASE Jumping
Not all of the BASE Jumpers are leaping by their lonesome. Some will be launched by a device created by Vertical Visions engineer Jason Bell, the
Human Catapult. This year, it\'s got
some upgrades.
When & Where: The catapult will be launching jumpers beside the main dive area throughout the festival.
Whitewater Rafting
Rafting isn\'t an official part of Bridge Day, but we can\'t imagine having an outdoor event in the New River Gorge without this favored activity.
The Gorge has world-class whitewater rafting, and many Bridge Day fans battle it downstream to get the underbelly view of the BASE jumps.
When & Where: The rafters will be crossing under the bridge throughout the festival when it\'s safe for them to paddle on without being kicked in the head by a landing leaper.
