Big bridge, big adventure, big day – Bridge Day. It is hard to believe how many countless hours go into preparing for this one day. Is it worth it? How many times do we ask ourselves that? So it is nice when someone validates our efforts. Like the letter we received from the Southeast Tourism Society naming the 30th Anniversary of Bridge Day one of their Top 20 Events in October 2009.
The best events across the Southeast compete to receive the prestigious Top 20 designation. Through the nomination process, the Southeast Tourism Society chooses the Top 20 events in the Southeast for each month of the year and publishes this list of winners quarterly. The Top 20 Events publication is sent to over 1,600 newspapers, magazines, radio stations, TV stations ,AAA publications and others. The Top 20 Events are also listed on the Southeast Tourism Society web site.
So while it is our job to make sure Bridge Day happens, we consider it much more. It is our chance to show the world the best of the New River Gorge. Our chance to show why we love where we live. The fact that someone notices is great. So is it worth it? Yeah, it’s worth it!
